Winter may be long and maybe even a little frustrating, but don’t give up – spring’s almost here. For those who aren’t quite thrilled about the snow, you’ll be probably really glad to see the new grass sprouting, the trees coming back to life and the golden sun rays blessing everything. However, the approach of spring may actually be a bit stressful, if your home has gotten some damage from the cold.

That’s exactly why maintenance in the spring is so important. That way, you can move onto the new season with as little problems as possible. We’ll show you how you can do some maintenance on your home after the winter has gone. Check them out.

  • Take a look at your gutters. If they’re loose or leaky, you should have them replaced or repaired.

  • Ensure that the downspouts drain away from your home’s foundation and also take the time to clean it of debris.

  • Fill the lower areas in your yard or those next to your home’s foundation, with compacted soil, so that you can prevent insect breeding, yard flooding. foundation flooding and foundation damage.

  • Take a look at your wood trim around areas like your railing, decks, windows and doors. Probe them with a screwdriver and make the necessary repairs to them.

  • Check for shingle damage or see if any of them are missing and check the flashing around plumbing vents, skylights and chimneys – get them repaired or replaced.

  • Do some chimney checks. Clean the flue and get it inspected by a chimney sweep.

  • Look for cracks or movement in concrete slabs and fill them with silicone caulk or concrete crack filler.

  • Store your firewood at least 18 inches off the ground and 2 feet away from your home.

  • Test out your outside house faucets for damage. See if you can stop the flow of water by placing your thumb over the opening. If you can, then that probably signifies that the pipe inside the house is damaged.

  • Get your air conditioning system cleaned and checked by a qualified heating and cooling contractor.

  • See if your gas-powered and battery-powered lawn equipment are ready to use in the summer. Do the respective maintenance on that equipment.
